Our client, a deposit-taking (DT) Sacco based in Nairobi, is seeking to fill the role of a Teller
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the FOSA Officer, the Teller will be responsible for providing account services to members by
receiving deposits and loan payments, cashing checks, issuing savings withdrawals, and recording deposits.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Cash Handling and Transactions
Receive cash from members, ensuring the authenticity of currency.
Process withdrawals and payments promptly to minimize queues in the banking hall.
Balance currency, coin, and checks in cash drawers at the end of each shift.
Return excess cash to Treasury at the close of business.
Verify balances for individual checks and cash drawers regularly.
2. Agency and Mobile Banking Operations
Operate cash withdrawals and deposits on Co-op Agency.
Monitor Co-op agent tills and ensure timely float requisitions.
Handle M-PESA agency transactions and request float as required.
3. Cheque and Loan Services
Write bankers’ cheques for members and submit daily reports to Finance.
Receipt cash into loan, contribution, and shares accounts.
Allocate loan payments to member accounts accurately.
4. ATM Services
Prepare lists of ATM replacement requests and forward to FOSA Officer/Manager.
Issue ATM cards to members, ensuring proper documentation and signatures.
Maintain safe custody of ATM cards and prepare dispatch schedules/parcels to branches.
5. Documentation and Reporting
Prepare reconciliation reports for teller tills, M-PESA, and Co-op Agencies.
File all teller, M-PESA, and Co-op agency transaction documents.
Ensure proper filing of documents daily and monthly.
6. Customer Service
Answer account and banking-related inquiries.
Identify customer needs, provide information on new products/services
Resolve transaction-related issues promptly.
7. Compliance &Security
Arrange and safeguard teller cash in cubicles.
Obtain authorization from supervisors for large or group transactions.
Perform FOSA to BOSA funds transfers securely.
Ensure requisition of teller operational items
Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Banking, or
related field.
Professional certification, such as CPA, ACCA, or equivalent, is an added advantage.
Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in cash handling or teller operations within a SACCO, bank,
or microfinance institution.
Experience in agency banking (Co-op Agency, M-PESA) and ATM services is desirable.
KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCE
Strong knowledge of SACCO/banking operations and cash handling procedures.
High accuracy and attention to detail in transaction processing.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage queues efficiently.
Integrity, honesty, and commitment to safeguarding member funds.
Proficiency in core banking systems, agency banking platforms, and MS Office.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Problem-solving ability and responsiveness to member needs.
